Climate change, loss of biodiversity, polarization, geopolitical tensions, disinformation, and growing refugee flows: there are plenty of challenges in the twenty-first century that democracy must not only address but that also put democracy under pressure. This calls for renewal and strengthening. In countries that are further along in the process of democratic renewal, there is always a (nonprofit) organization driving this development and monitoring its quality.

Bureau Burgerberaad aims to become a center of expertise in the Netherlands. Through high-quality, impactful citizen deliberations and other democratic innovations, this agency aims to strengthen Dutch democracy and make it more inclusive. In addition, the agency seeks to share knowledge about these democratic innovations with professionals, policymakers, and the general public through programs, workshops, training sessions, and consulting services.
