Meijers Committee

The Meijers Commission consists of independent experts in the fields of European asylum law, immigration law, criminal law, privacy, and nondiscrimination. The commission’s members are committed to providing insight into European policymaking and regulation and to assessing their compatibility with human rights. They review European legislation—both upon request and on their own initiative—at various stages of the legislative process.

The committee informs politicians, policymakers, and the public about the European decision-making process. The members also advise Members of the European Parliament on formulating their positions, for example during negotiations with the Council and the European Commission. By issuing recommendations at the right time and thanks to an extensive network in Brussels and The Hague, the committee is able to bring its views to the attention of the highest political levels.

We support the Meijers Commission because of the important work it does to safeguard the rule of law in connection with new (European) legislative proposals.
