Join the conversation: What do you think the media should look like in the future?
Over the past few weeks, NU.nl hosted “The Great Media Debate.” Each week, readers were able to discuss the media in the Netherlands on NUjij, including topics such as the growing influence of the online world. What do you think the media should look like in the future?
In response to the articles, readers noted, among other things, that they are concerned about the growing influence of AI on the news. For example, they felt it is harder to determine what is real and reliable, and what is not. Some readers therefore prefer not to use AI at all.
In addition, 88 percent of readers believe that people spend too much time in their own news bubbles. Some of them think this is due to their algorithm, or because they often read the same media outlets.
91 percent of readers believe that social media can never be a reliable source of news. Some other readers, however, are able to find information on social media that complements their own news sources. According to them, traditional media sometimes still fall short when it comes to providing a complete picture.
Now the question remains: what do you think the media should look like in the future? What do you already see as positive and shouldn’t change? What should the media definitely avoid doing? And what should they definitely do? Share your ideas here.
About The Great Media Debate
The Great Media Debate is a study, a conversation, and a campaign all in one. It’s about how we experience the news in the Netherlands, what we’re missing, what concerns us, and what could be improved. We believe these aren’t questions for media experts alone. That’s why we’re engaging in a conversation with a broad audience.Over the next six weeks, a new proposition or theme will be posted online each week. The Great Media Debate is an initiative of the Democracy and Media Foundation, in collaboration with De Argumentenfabriek and NU.nl.
