Bits of Freedom

The way our society is becoming digitized poses risks to an open and just society. New technology is far too often used to restrict people’s freedom and their ability to shape their own lives. The government is watching us. Big tech companies exploit our vulnerabilities and manipulate our view of the world. The careless use of data leads to the codification, concealment, and perpetuation of discrimination.

Bits of Freedom influences policy and legislation to support an open and just information society. They do this through advocacy, campaigning, and legal action, both in the Netherlands and in Brussels.

Bits of Freedom thus fights for the right to privacy and freedom of communication, which are prerequisites for guaranteeing other fundamental rights, such as freedom of expression and the right to equal treatment.
