Public Interest Litigation Project (PILP)

When consultation, advocacy, and lobbying are not enough. When there is no other way to defend human rights. That is when the public interest calls for legal intervention. Since 2014, the Public Interest Litigation Project (PILP) has focused on strategic litigation for human rights in the Netherlands.

Strategic litigation for human rights is the process of bringing about social, political, or legal change through legal proceedings. Cases are usually brought with the aim of winning them in court, but sometimes losing a case can also yield benefits: for example, it can expose an injustice or draw attention to a social issue.
